The Lodge

The Bulkley River Lodge is on a remote section of one of the best Steelhead rivers on the planet located within the traditional Wet'suwet'en Territory. River-front access and no neighbors are great assets for a fishing lodge.

The River

The Bulkley River has one of the largest, if not the largest wild Steelhead runs in the world. The river is blessed with over ninety miles of classic fly water.

The Fish

Steelhead from 5 to 30 pounds... These wild fish are well known for attacking surface presentations throughout the season.

The Season

Primetime for Steelhead is late August to the middle of November

Guides

The Bulkley River Lodge guides are among the most knowledgeable, friendliest and experienced in the province of British Columbia. A combined 80 years of guiding knowledge is shared between the 5 guides on staff. It is the goal of the guides and lodge staff for our clients to have the best experience possible, both fishing and with the lodge atmosphere. Constantly putting clients over fish is one part of a bigger picture. Other intangibles like scenery, wildlife, remote locations and the atmosphere at the lodge are also very important. You will fish for a large portion of your day, but the hours spent before and after fishing are arguably as important as the fishing itself.

Guiding Program

The guiding program at Bulkley River Lodge Is a great one. Guests on the river will be able to experience a safe, fun, instructional and productive week of fly angling. Casting instruction, presentation and general steelheading techniques are discussed daily, with returning clients building on their knowledge through us on a yearly basis. Casting instruction, especially with two handed or 'spey' rods is invaluable on this large river in particular. Our guides are some of the best in the industry to show you how to get it done right.

The guest to guide ratio is 2:1 so the experience is very hands on and all anglers get lots of prime water to swing flies through. The guides at Bulkley River Lodge draw from a pool of over 65 years of Bulkley River guiding experience, so your days hunting steelhead in one of five jet boats or rafts over 130 km (80 miles) of river will be memorable.

Since I hate the office, you will find me most days on the river trying to figure out those steelheads. In summers I am off leading multi-day rafting trips in some of the wildest parts of the Yukon. Tagging sharks worldwide completes the remaining space in the year.
